I'm not so sure whether Mr. Hanson is whistling past the graveyard or trying to counterbalance the doomsayers. I pray it's a situation where he's right, it's not as bad as many say.
Fight the fear! Keep the faith! This story isn't Pollyanna, but it DOES say perhaps we're believing the worst of our situation a bit too much. If fear feeds on itself, can't hope?
"The wheels seem to be coming off the economy right now," said Brian P. Sack, vice president of the respected forecasting firm of Macroeconomic Advisers. "It's hard to see how we avoid a recession, and it could prove a tough one to climb out of."
Hearing some of the dire predictions for an economy struggling to avert a financial collapse, it's easy to recall 1930s photos of people huddled in soup lines or traveling the country for work and wonder what a depression would look like in the modern world.
OK, I distinctly notice a LOT of cognitive dissonance going on these crisis-fueled days, people.

I'm a reporter. Neutral on the job, at least, I try to be. Got this just now in the inbox. I share with you to read and judge on your own. Will share thoughts in a posting.: Statement By McCain Campaign On Negotiations

The 'Mad Money' man himself tries to dispel five 'lies' told about the Paulson Plan, and bluntly tells us what the alternative is - and we DON'T want to go there... do we?
They build very nice homes we couldn't afford. Apparently, grew too fast, and like many, thought boom wouldn't fall off a cliff, just slow down;-/
No flowery varnishing of the disturbing truth, here. Sure, we have 'mechanisms in place' to try to head off disaster... but....;-/
Oh Lordy, will the madness ever end? Can the government print-money its way out of recession or worse? The mind boggles...
Wow. Oy. Ugh. Whoa. What's going ON on Wall Street? Wild times....
Not only about seeding any amusing, informative non-politcial articles here... but the REALLY tough part. Keeping conversations from turning into political slugfests!

Thanks to I found this start of a series Google is doing on the future of search - and it is mind-expanding, if not mind-blowing. SO much more to do in this field! Will others challenge Google by trying to do more with search?
By the powers vested in me by the great Rebel Girl I now pronounce thee, Mr. Barry, TAGGED.

OK, I know I'm not supposed to be self-serving in seeds, but... I want you to see me talk about Newsvine! So if it's about NV, do I get special dispensation from COH breach?;-)
I want one. NOW. In color. Like what we saw in Minority Report. (Or was that Back to the Future?;-)
Well is this any surprise? Hopefully they also get a seat inside the convention halls next time. Sheesh;-)
Need to start a new thread, with the real-deal details of what has to be considered a monumental business/government miletsone in the U.S. - for good or bad, the opinions are there, the reality will swiftly follow (when do the Asian markets open?;-/
Curious what y'all think. We've had a rash of suicides (or suicide attempts) in our area lately - maybe we're not alone, considering the state of the economy.

An Oregon State Police trooper pulled over a pickup truck nearly dragging its trailer hitch on a highway near Christmas Valley Sunday afternoon, arresting two Willamette Valley brothers for stealing 1,500 pounds of copper wire from a mothballed, Cold War-era super-radar site.
Chevy! Ford! Chevy! Blam!
Not sure I've EVER been to Newsvine before, probably haven't.

By now the arguments are familiar: Facebook is ruining our social relationships; Google is making us dumber; texting is destroying the English language as we know it.
Charleston resident Kelli Davis was in for a surprise when her daughter brought home some routine paperwork at the start of school this fall. Davis signed the form and then handed it to her daughter for the eighth-grader's signature.
Hundreds of thousands of laid-off American workers are undergoing federally subsidized retraining in hopes of landing a job in a new field. For some, it feels like an exercise in futility. Msnbc.com's Mike Brunker reports.
There’s a Facebook-trashing thread elsewhere on the site, in which people have begun debating the usefulness of Twitter. It took awhile to get used to, but I really like Twitter.
Tasks that once took days can be completed in seconds, while traditions and skills that emerged over centuries have been made all but redundant. The internet is no respecter of reputations: innocent people have seen their lives ruined by viral clips distributed on the same World …

Well this IS a public way to discuss such things, wish NV made it easier to send private notes to each other... anyway, thanks, yes we plan a redesign- some tweaking soon, giving the site some breathing room, going to the new-style player widget (which we use on articles), etc. But hey, we top 1 million page views a month so we must be doing SOMETHING right;-)

I work with a WorldNow site as well. www.kndu.com
I like the weather box KTVZ has and it is an interesting use of column 5. I like looking at other WorldNow sites and a lot of people seem to cram it with ads that, I believe, viewers just overlook. So that's refreshing. KNDO/KNDU recently went through a redesign and how I wanted to use Column 5 got vetoed by the powers at be so to speak.
Video player seems a bit out of place. Has KTVZ looked into the Video Widget capability that WorldNow has available now? Gives you a lot of customization options in terms of color, size, and layout. You could make it blend in more with the Top Story Rotator and Weather Utility. Or maybe I am just thinking that because we went to the widgets. ;)
You tease that KTVZ is busy, but, it isn't too bad I think! I know it is a struggle, but I have seen some WorldNow sites get really really cluttered. KRON comes to mind.
